Delete Attachments

This option removes attachments from emails (the attachments are NOT saved). The email body has a status message added reflecting that attachments have been removed. The advantages are:

  • Your Outlook mailbox (PST file) is smaller, and therefore easier to backup
  • Outlook is faster, as it has less data to go through
  • Outlook is more reliable, as it tends to crash as the mailbox gets close to its maximum size of 2 GB.

Attachments are deleted via the Recycle Bin. DetachPipe leaves a link in place so that you can see where the attachment was, and also you can restore the attachment from the Recycle Bin and re-attach it to the email at a later date.  If you don't want these status messages added to your email, edit Languages/English.ini and set the text for entries 10200 and 10210 to blank (i.e. = nothing).

It is preceded by the confirmation window.

This option respects the Manual Saving/detaching/deleting settings, so if you have checked Retain attachment icon on emails, the emails will still retain a small dummy attachment.

You can control which emails have their attachment deleted based on size and age, using the Manual Saving/detaching/deleting settings. First click the DetachPipe toolbar button\Settings. On the Detach Settings tab\Manual Saving/detaching/deleting, specify your Age and Size criteria. Click [Ok] to save the default settings. Then, select the emails to delete, and click the DetachPipe toolbar button\Delete.
